Old Yuma Prison is one of Arizona’s most famous historic landmarks — but this time, we didn’t take the usual route. Using a hand-drawn map from Aaron’s dad, we left the pavement behind and followed the same desert backroads he once documented to reach this notorious territorial prison. Along the way, we experienced the land the way early travelers, guards, and inmates would have — slow, rugged, and intentional. As we tour Old Yuma Prison, we explore its history as a territorial prison opened in 1876, the harsh conditions inmates endured, and the surprising stories hidden within its stone walls.
